한국불교전서 내 이야기
제목 : 명의 엄강嚴江은 상성相城의 피혁장이였다.
중년에 직업을 버리고 절에다 재齋를 지내는 음식을 날랐는데, 길을 가면서 오로지 『금강경』을 수지하고 아울러 아미타불을 염송하는 소리를 멈추지 않았다. 나이 예순 남짓에 갑자기 곡기를 끊고 한 달 동안 물만 마시더니 이렇게 말하였다. “나는 몇 날 몇 시에 갈 것이다.” 약속한 날이 되자 목욕하고 옷을 갈아입더니 가부좌하고 천화하였다. 화장하자 사리가 여러 홉 나왔고, 그 혀는 쇠나 돌처럼 단단해 두드리면 소리가 났으니, 정덕正德 13년(1518)에 있었던 일이다. 지극히 부드럽기로 혓바닥만 한 것이 없지만 마음이 견고하면 혀도 견고해지는 것이니, 이것은 금강불괴金剛不壞의 실증實證이다.
