伊字三點 refers to the Sanskrit sign (?) as neither across nor upright, being of triangular shape, and indicating neither unity nor difference, before nor after. The Nirvana Sutra applies the three parts to 法身 dharmakāya (धर्मकाय), 般若 prajñā (प्रज्ञा) and 解脫 vimokṣa (विमोक्ष), all three being necessary to complete nirvana. It is also associated with the three eyes of Śiva. When considered across they represent fire, when upright, water. At a later period the three were joined (?) in writing.

伊字三點 In Sanskrit script the sound i is written in the form of three dots in a triangle (∴). Since these three line up with each other either horizontally or vertically, it is used as a trope for "neither the same nor different." In the Nirva^na-su^tra it is used as a trope for the relationship between the dharma-body 法身, Abhidharmako/sa and moks!a 解脫.
실담의 이자는 3 점으로 이뤄지고 , 3 점이 세로줄도 가로줄도 아닌 것을 말한다. 마하수라 (makeśura) 곧 대자재천은 면상에 세 눈이 있는데 이 천주의 세 눈도 정립하여 그 형상이 이자의 3 점과 같다. 남본 열반경 권2 애탄품에서는 이것들을 가지고 열반의 내용인 법신, 반야 해탈의 3 덕이 상즉불이(相卽不離)의 관계에 있는 것을 비유하고 있다. 특히 관정의 열반경소 권6 에는 이에 신구 양자가 있다고 한다. 별교교리의 격력불융은 구이와 같고 원교융즉의 리는 신이와 같다고 해석한다. 법화현의 권5하 에서는 3 덕, 3 보리, 3 불성, 3 관 등 제종의 3 법에 배당하여 원이, 또는 진이라고 한다. 3 덕: 법신法身․반야般若․해탈解脫 3덕(三德)이 상즉불리의 관계에 있는 것을 비유한다. 3 보리: 실성實性․실지實智․방편 方便(3보리三菩提), 3 불성 정인正因․료인了因․연인緣因 3불성(三佛性), 3 보 불佛․법法․승僧 3보(三寶), 3 도 고苦․번뇌煩惱․업業 3도(三道) 等 참고 구 홍법원 불교사전 + 대만 불광사전
